Service
My iSchool journey here in
Seattle was full of volunteer service opportunities. In my free time I
enjoyed finding opportunities to serve in my community and school. I
especially enjoyed volunteering with youth and the public. Mostly, I
volunteered at one time events, but I also volunteered year round with
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound as a site based school
volunteer. I meet with my little sister Daja every week and we have
fun making crafts, playing basketball, and talking about school and
life. I love being a big sister and I would recommend that every grad
student who has one extra hour a week, volunteer for this program. As
an active volunteer in the Seattle and UW community I had the
opportunity to meet a lot of people from different places. Each person I
met and worked with taught me something about the greater library
community. I learned that being involved in the community is a way for
me to promote libraries, literacy, and be an advocate for libraries. I
hope I also have inspired more young people like me to think about
careers in librarianship.
